Lithography uses the premise that water and oil don’t mix. On press, the dampeners wet the entire plate, but only the non-image areas will get damp. The ink rollers transfer ink and are accepted in the image areas, but repelled by non-print areas. The image is then copied, or “offset”, from plate to another cylinder called the blanket. The blanket accepts the image and then transfers it to the substrate. Lithography is used primarily for stacked, banded, or cut materials. It offers very high graphic reproduction with great image quality.

Sparkling fruit juice producer Appletiser had made a special niche in the world of beverages with a relatively high priced product. However, with the onset of tougher financial times, it was more important than ever that this iconic South African brand maintained its shelf presence.
The focal point of Appletiser’s neck label is the metallic apple logo. The logo was originally designed to be foiled with colour lacquer overprints, however in order to economize on label costs, the print process was changed to gravure.
Through our commitment to innovation and continuous improvement, we are constantly investing in new technologies, materials and processes to ensure we remain at the forefront of our industry, pioneering new standards for premium labels. From raw materials to finished goods, our in-house Research & Development team has a focused effort on new product development and new market innovations that help build brands and drive sales.
