Mount Macedon Winery (MMW) is located on the western slopes of Mount Macedon in Victoria with impressive views overlooking the Black Forest Valley. At 680m above sea level, it is one of the highest-altitude wineries in Australia with some of the toughest growing conditions of any vineyard on mainland Australia.

Passionate about great wines that tell a story, MMW wanted a label for their Pinot Gris varietal that gave a sense of place and a taste of the season. Natasha from Clareandthorn designed a bold and sophisticated label, that signifies the soft textural element that tells you this is a Pinot Gris. The label design evokes the same feeling as walking through the Mount Macedon Region – moody, dark and romantic.

The label has been printed digitally on Bright White Felt, an uncoated paper label stock with a distinctive felt-like texture. The absorbent nature of the stock has allowed for a dense, even print of the black background that highlights the texture of the stock. Sophisticated black-on-black typography for the branding has been created through a black hot foil combined with deboss for a premium, tactile result. A matt varnish provides excellent contrast for the textured stock against the smooth look of the foil.

“The final result was exactly what we envisioned. Each premium finish adding another layer of sophistication to the label. It’s a label that will have everyone reaching for it on the shelf.” – Natasha, Clareandthorn
