WineShop At Home provides consumers with a unique, approachable wine experience through in-home Wine Tastings and a direct-to-consumer Wine Club and retail experience. When they approached MCC Napa with a new label project, titled “Above”, their goal was to incorporate an image of the Northern Lights.

With that as inspiration, MCC presented the team with Mosaic Printing, a design tool which enables us to automatically create millions of unique designs from one pattern.

Label Construction

Initially, the image files that were supplied did not support the idea and the color variation across labels was too similar, causing the team to begin with a new image file. This technique would be an extensive challenge for a packaging designer to replicate, but with our technical team it’s possible to develop a coherent series of SKU’s of one product, in minutes.

Disrupting the shelf with Mosaic can entice the consumer into not only buying the product, but also giving them the choice to select the label they enjoy the most. The idea of purchasing from a ‘series’ produces a memorable brand and a gotta catch ‘em all mentality.

Through trials and calibrations, MCC perfected the artwork to run an infinite number of Northern Light designs, resulting in a sleek and out-of-this-world label.

Mosaic Printing allowed us to take our original concept to new heights, creating a truly unique label series where no one bottle is the same. This effect encapsulated our inspiration of the Northern Lights perfectly, as the colors and waves of light are constantly changing. We were so pleased with the process from start to finish and are delighted with the outcome of our Above label.
