Multi-Color takes the cake for Group A1 (Wines) with our collaboration on this L’Envolée wine label.
The MCC team was proud to be recognized at the 44th FINAT label competition, celebrating excellence in label printing worldwide. We celebrate our submission in the Wine category that earned a big win with the following judge’s comments:
This apparently simple label depicts the early days of a bird taking to flight. It also shows a baby bird falling from the nest in an attempt to fly. The single blue background serves to highlight the name of the wine which is outlined in a delightful silver embossed script. The silver/black highlighted images of the birds contrasts nicely with the subdued image of the branch and nest. The whole label has added depth created by the embossing of all the images. Printed digitally in four colours in two passes with the addition of silver hot foiling.

About the label design
L’Envolée is a French word that means “to take flight” or “to soar.” The label shows a baby bird falling out of the nest on the left, then moving across the label to the right as it learns to fly. The bird at the top of the label has made it–it’s soaring high above.
The ultimate design challenge was making a label that took the motif from the Cabernet label (navy blue and gold) and creating a lighter blue and silver version to match the white wine. “I think it turned out great! The detailing on the birds was even better than the gold ones,” shared Caitlin Lhommeau of L’Envolée Wines.
How it’s printed
The label is printed on Estate #8 material, it incorporates sculpted emboss and silver foil, and the team applied an overprint of ink on the birds with more detail to achieve the final, premium look.
Beautiful work like this is what motivates us to strive for the highest quality each and every time. Thank you to FINAT for hosting the annual event and for their continued dedication to our industry.
